It’s almost needless to say that the first thing people think of when you mention this country is…Amsterdam! A fun and little-known fact is that the Netherlands is one of the few nations with more than one capital city. While Amsterdam is the official capital, there is another legal, royal, and administrative one: The Hague. Situated on the North Sea coast of the western region of the country, this picturesque city blends 16th century Gothic-style architecture with modern high-rises.

A new attraction for you - admire the skyline of The Hague

Looking for a sky-high view over the sea, old “Dutch Golden Age” buildings, and contemporary skyscrapers, all in one? Our Viewnary Host, Farid, has you covered. From one side of his panoramic residence, you can see The Hague’s newly-built urban landscape coupled with North Sea waters that stretch as far as the eye can see. On the other side, you can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the historically-rich side of the monarchal city. Farid’s high-rise apartment can accommodate anything from a romantic dinner to a glitzy photoshoot. To help ease the eyestrain you’ll get from his view, Farid even throws in a unique bonus: a pair of professional binoculars!

Our suggestions for what to see in The Hague

There are plenty of things you can do to top up your Viewnary experience. A must-do is a visit to the age-old heart of Dutch politics - Het Binnenhof. Guided tours are available to walk you through the Binnenhof’s impressive “Ridderzaal” (Hall of Knights) and First and/or Second Chamber of Parliament. For the art buffs, countless Dutch and Flemish masterpieces are on display at the Mauritshuis and Kunstmuseum. For those seeking a more casual experience, stroll through the city to soak in the classic Dutch architecture and book a table on the many town squares and terraces. The Plein and Grote Markt squares are favorites amongst locals and tourists alike. Given that The Hague is a coastal city, a walk and meal along the (often very windy!) beach is always an option, too.
